Spoon Ninja

Here's a few updated pictures from Little Man, now one year old and getting ear tubes next week so hopefully help him feel better.

Little Almost Naked Man

Here's all of our animals basking in the sun.

Who knew flour could be so exciting?

Happy Birthday Colby!

Well, our little man was born a year ago today a week late and after three days of intense labor We're amazed at how quickly the year has flown by.  I made him a little cake in a pyrex dish and made some frosting using yogurt and powdered sugar because I ran out of butter or any other tasty subsitiute.  I even got my frosting gear out from a Wilton cake decorating class I took several years ago, unfortunately the frosting was too runny so it just poured down the sides, Colby didn't mind though.  He dug right into the cake, then squished it all around his high chair.  Happy Birthday Little Man!

Making Wallet Sized Pics from 4x6 Photos

With our Christmas cards I wanted to put in small pictures of Colby but I didn't want to pay a ton for it.  Through Shutterfly wallets are almost 90 cents each where as 4x6's are only 15 cents each.  After some quick math, I decided that I needed to somehow make wallets out of the 4x6's.   After many trials I managed to figure out how to do this.  Before working in Paint I cropped the pictures to a 4x6 ratios.  I pretty much just opened one of the pictures I wanted to use in paint then zoomed out so the picture was small and then expanded the white area around the picture.  I then pasted another picture in and moved it butted up against the other one on the right side.  And whalla, for 7.5 cents I have some wallet sized pictures.

Holiday Pictures

I unfortunately haven't gotten professional photos done yet, so Colby and I just did another photo shoot to suffice for the Christmas cards we just sent out...a bit late.  So here's some we took using a white comforter as a back drop.  Not too shabby for not having a fancy camera...I think...

Silly Picture

We were up all night last night.  Looks like an ear infection again...we're off to the doctor this afternoon and hopefully he can get some relief.  Until then keep Merry.

Silly Pictures

So I've been working with Paint for some reason and am just starting to figure it out a bit.  This month I'm trying to send a picture a day to Colby's grandparents as a Christmas present.  I took these of Colby playing with a Cabbage Patch Doll and when I reviewed them I thought they would make a funny collage.  Happy Monday to you all!

Halloween Photo Shoot

Most of our leaves have fallen down so I've been trying to work on some cute baby pictures outside.  I have a few costumes passed down from my sister so we tried those on.  I'm still debating about if he will be a tiger, pumpkin, skunk, or gnome.  Enjoy.  (Oh, and don't judge the quality of pictures...I haven't invested in a cool camera yet and just have a Cannon Powershot)

Baby Photography Ideas

I've been needing to take some more fun photos of Colby so I've collected quite a few I would like to try with him.  Some of them I don't think I can get him to stay still long enough but I've got a niece or nephew set to arrive in April so I can try some of these shoots out with him/her, yay!

Baby Photo Session

Yes, yes, I have been spending far too much time gleaning ideas from Pinterest.  I not only have been finding great recipes but I've also been trying out some baby photo ideas as well.  Here's my inspiration photo:
Here is my version.  I've got to work on my back grounds a bit and if I had wood floors it would be awesome, but alas, this is what I've got to work with.

Peonies-gardening

My plants are finally coming up in my veggie garden.  I've got a good crop of lettuce, carrots, beets, corn and gobs of tomatoes and peppers.  My peas and beans aren't flourishing but they were attacked and laid on by Kola my 90 pound golden retriever.  This weekend I managed to spend over fifty dollars on flowers and shrubs at the Cub food greenhouse because they were having an end of the year sale.  The cash register said it wasn't bad considering I bought a pee-onnnn-eeee.  She said it in the most peculiar way that it has stuck with me.  I much prefer her pronunciation though because the way I say it makes it sound like an ugly flower.  I'm eagerly awaiting for it to blossom.

On a Gardening Vacation-How to Photograph Children and Pets

This past memorial day weekend we started putting in our garden in our backyard.  Unfortunately I vastly underestimated how much time it would take to dig up all the sod and then plant.  I'm still in the digging phase and it takes quite a while, especially when I have to sing the "Wheels on the Bus" while getting covered in soil.  Any apologies for the lack of crafting going on, but Colby and I did a quick photo shoot.  I've discovered a few things about photographing children and pets (Hopefully I didn't offend anyone by lumping your child in with your dog):
1.  Get down at their level.  No one wants a far a way shot looking down on a child or for that matter a shot looking up their nose.

2.  Don't use the flash.  This freaks babies out and you end up with a picture with a kid with a really confused look.

3.  Experiment with different colorings.  My camera has a color swap which makes all the greens pop but everything else is black and white. Okay, this isn't the best example of the colors popping, but it makes Martin look pretty awesome.

4.  Play with different backgrounds.  I like to use blankets with visual interest but photographing in the great outdoors is always a good move.

5.  Capture some action or emotion.  If the photos look to posed and stiff they won't elicit a reaction from your audience.
6.  Edit your pictures.  Crop, reduce red eyes, and play with the exposure, contrast, and highlights.
7.  Make sure your subject is rested and happy or you'll end up with a crying baby picture and look like a bad parent.
