Antique school desk
After a long hiatus I have returned once gain. My little man is now two and a half and our newest little little man is four months old and growing fast. With the two boys I have had a hard time finding "me time" for creating and visiting garage sales. Finally on the way home from getting groceries we topped at a great sale. There were several old frames I am kicking myself for not getting, but alas I was just out of practice. I did pick up a antique wood and cast iron school desk for ten dollars. I have been working on it some but I am having issues with the staining not being even so I am going to try and get some toner to even out the finish. Until next time...enjoy

Homemade High Chair Cover
The high chair the most of our baby gear was second hand. My husband's coworker graciously gave us a crib, high chair, and booster seat. Unfortunately the chair was covered in cracking vinyl so I finally got around to refinishing it since we are using it a few times a day now. I had a bunch of PUL (water proof fabric) left over from my attempts to make diaper covers so I was set.

It was really a pretty simple job. It was just one solid piece so I traced a front and back, cut it out, sewed it together and stuffed it with the padding from the old one. I then did some decorative stitching to keep the foam padding in place and wallah, it was done.

Side Cabinet Redo Update
Here's an update of the cabinet that my husband helped me redo. I originally bought the cabinet for two dollars at a garage sale. At the time I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it, but it had really good bones and was sturdy. We spray painted it paprika, made a drawer, and bought new knobs...needless to say it is worth a bit more than two dollars now, but still rustic. If only I had another piece of furniture to refinish, I must go garage saling soon.

Side Cabinet Redo
Earlier this summer on one of my secret garage sale escapades I found this little side table.
It was just made of cheap plywood but sturdy. It looked as if it had been used in the garage at one point and had holes drilled into the top as if it was holding a tool.
The tag said $2 so I bought it. Let me back track a bit...prior to this my husband said, "Don't buy any furniture," so I brought the table in while he was at work and hid it by the cat litter until the time was right to tell him I had purchased furniture against his wishes...long story short he noticed it after about a week-the cat litter is by the washer and dryer and he rarely visits those parts of the house, he was a bit perturbed but, hey it was $2 so he couldn't get too mad.
Process:
1. I filled in the holes in the top with some wood putty. Then sanded it down when it dried and reapplyed another coat, sanding afterward.
2. I primed the whole thing, did a light sanding after ward with 400 grit sand paper and then spray painted the whole thing with a few light coats of Paprika spray paint.
3. I reattached the hardware, and wholla, a fancy new dresser-my husband has volunteered to make a drawer so the whole finished product picture will be postponed for a bit...

IKEA, Oh My
This weekend I made my first venture to IKEA. My husband, Colby (4 months), and I made the venture on Saturday because it was rainy and rather miserable. I toted Colby around in a front carrier, and thank God, I can't imagine how crappy our trip would've been with a stroller or cart to push. It was a mad house. There were just gobs of people everywhere. We went to IKEA with the idea to buy an entertainment stand since we just got a new recliner and wanted to "finish" off the room furniture wise. We had been using a stand we painstakingly agreed upon from Target five years ago. (See picture, see very little storage)
After a long adventure through the maze of the show room and then endless cavern of the warehouse and over fifteen minutes in line we made it out with our new TV stand. Well, sort of, once we got home we decided that instead of some doors here we'd like to put drawers in instead so my husband ran back out to IKEA for the new configuration. Then after hours and hours of assembly-everything comes completely un assembled-and dozens of card board boxes later-we have our new entertainment center. Now I just need to find some baskets and decor for on and around it. Oh the consumerism never ends. Oh I forgot to mention the worst part, about midnight Colby woke up crying hysterically and I couldn't console him for about an hour, I think he was having nightmares of giant warehouses, mobs of people, and ceiling fans as big as our house (when you go to IKEA next time look up and you will see what I'm talking about).
